Music Creation

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Please write a comment on this post in which you share the music you made and write about the process of making the music.

    1. I agree! I found incredibox easy to use. I think it would be easy enough to navigate for my Kindergarteners. They would love that their creations could be saved and listened to many times.

  6. I used Soundtrap. Pretty easy to add in your own "beats". I could see students tying this in with poetry!

  25. Incredibox was fun and rewarding because it was so easy! It didn't matter what I did, it turned out great. I'm going to introduce my 3rd grade granddaughter to this, because she is really creative. I can sit back and enjoy.

  26. I like the Flat program. As a music teacher, this would be great to have my students compose (create) their own pieces to play on their recorders. I like that they can hear it in a playback so they can hear how it is supposed to be performed. They can evaluate how it sounds and change it on the spot.

    3. I teach K-5 music. My students do not have chromebooks, yet. We are supposed to get them in the fall. Using soundtrap would be a great tool for them to hear themselves practice. I didn't think of that possibility because I didn't realize that could be done.

  28. I spent a bit of time on the Soundtrap application, which I found to be very familiar to Garageband. I feel this tool would be useful in my classroom as I could have students spend time on creating their very own sound designs on performance projects that I assign. I like that it is so closely formatted like garageband and that students would be able to pick up on it very quickly. I think one drawback of soundtrap is that it offers so many options that some people or students may get sidetracked by going through all of the features. I also think Incredibox is a useful tool for a very quick, simple project. However, SOundtrap save and share feature is much more user friendly.

  30. I tried the SoundTrap website. I think it is the best because it seems like it is the easiest website to use. It allows you to actually look at each track and build your song. I feel that it would be the easiest for elementary kids.

  31. I'm not a musical in any way, so Incredibox was easy. I could manipulate the sounds and make them sound pleasing for me, but I did not feel like I was "really" making music. Soundtrap was intimidating.

    1. I completely understand about Soundtrap being intimidating. I felt the same way. Soon enough, the kids were doing so many awesome things that I had to start playing more myself. Did you find any great tutorials?

  32. I teach first grade and really liked Incredibox because it seems as an easy way to introduce music to my students. My concern would be keeping them off of this during instruction time. Is there strategies to use Soundtrap with younger children? I am not familiar with loops or composing my own music.

  33. Incredibox was a really easy to use site and the characters on the site added to the fun of it.

    Soundtrap had a lot of variety compared to the other two sites. I liked the ability to browse all of the loops as well as being able to play different instruments. It also helped that it was very similar to Garageband.

    Flat was a really interesting site to me. I like that they had different sounds like the Star Wars sounds but I would have really liked some kind of tutorial so that I could understand it a little better.

  34. From my short review/test of the three music website options Soundtrap is the best because it has the best tutorial video. The other two sites would improve with better tutorials visual or audio. Major drawback would be students not having/bringing headphones and having to listen to so many different tunes being created at the same time.

  35. Incredibox was my favorite because it was visually more fun and it was the easiest for me to use. Soundtrap seems the most interesting for my students to use due to its seemingly unlimited options. Students can barrow and create their own as well as save it for free!

  37. I thought that incredibox would be easiest for my younger students to use because it is simpler. Soundtrap would be best for my older students to use because it is slightly more complicated, however more can be made with it. How could you use this in an art classroom without taking up the entire class solely on playing with the music portion?

  38. Visually, Incredibox surpasses the other options. For students who are not so musically inclined it is more fun and interesting to watch the sounds you create.

  39. I enjoyed Icredibox. I think students will really enjoy making different sounds/beats. I teach primary age and they will get a kick out of dressing the avatars and how that changes their sound. I also like that their creations can be saved and published.
